Okay, so I’m perusing through my Google reader and came across this video of a gay dude repeatedly saying bitch. It got me thinking, how is this okay? I mean if he was straight and called a woman a bitch then all hell would break loose but because he’s gay it’s okay? I call bullshit! No woman should allow anyone to call her that. It doesn’t matter if that person is male or female, gay or straight.
As a culture, generation and society it seems that our standards have been deminished. we degrade our women and they allow themselves to be degraded. We praise ignorance and shun education. This is something that must change. This is not acceptable behavior.
I know that I am far from perfect but I do try and set a good example. At least what I feel is good. But with that, different people have different interpretations of good and bad, or right and wrong. What’s right to one may be wrong to another. There is no clear cut answer as to what either one is to each person, it’s left up to the individual to decide.
I know I got a little off topic but it all relates back to one person being able to say one thing while another can’t. it’s crazy because I understand that it’s not always what you say but the way you say it. I was told that you can say a word in an endearing or derogatory way. The same word just different tone. So the gay dude can call you a bitch in a mean way, but the straight guy can’t. It’s just crazy. I mean I was watching this video and he/she was talking about some woman and calling her a bitch so much that I thought that was her government name. If this video wasn’t by “Timaya“ <— spotted at crunktastical.net but was made by a straight guy named “Timothy” would it be okay? No. People would light his ass up! To me it’s the same as a white person saying Nigger and a black person saying Nigga. Same word, two different tones turning it into an endearing vs derogatory situation.
All in all it’s just not a good look either way. What are your thoughts?
Have you ever felt that for some reason you just can’t get the respect due to you? That’s how I’m feeling right about now. I’m not gonna get into the specifics of why, but just know that I’m feeling some kinda way about not getting my respect. I’m not the type to want the glory or the spotlight when I do something. Most of the time when I do things it’s just out of love and/or respect for something or someone. I never really expect recognition or even acknowledgment for it, but damn. I mean sometimes I would like for someone to recognize that while yes, other people may have done or may do what I do, I have and will always do it better. check the stats and then you tell me! Sorry if I’m being vague but I just need to vent right now and I don’t want to cause more unwanted drama to the situation since it’s already on it’s last leg as is.
All I’m saying is respect people and give them the props that they deserve. If I see someone doing something that I respect or whatever I have no issues with giving them their props. Why can’t I get the same? I do this for the love of writing. I don’t make a dime off of this and I still come through and make sure every post is news worthy with ACTUAL facts and all. I do the recaps for the love of the shows. I know that if I like it then somebody else probably does too. So let’s discuss it. Now when people begin to do the same it’s all love. No hate, just love and I patronize their sites and leave nice comments and the whole nine. But when you try to compare what you do to what I do when you just literally copy & paste what I wrote and only change a few words or phrases to make it seem like you did it. Then we have a problem. Like I said, I do this for the love of writing and television. I don’t make a dime, but when you down me to bring your stats up well… google me.
Okay that’s enough of that. I apologize to my loyal people out there that read me on a regular and know that what I do is from the heart, but I just felt that I needed to vent and let those certain individuals know that I’m on to them and I don’t appreciate it. Aiight. I’m done.
A small town in Winfield, Missouri has elected their mayor to a fourth term. No big deal right? Mayors get reelected to additional terms all the time. Only thing is, he’s dead! Apparently the popular mayor died several weeks earlier of a heart attack but absentee voting had already started and there wasn’t enough time to reprint ballot slips. Man it would have to suck to be running against a dead guy and still lose! Not only do you lose, but by 90% of the vote! Here’s a link to thearticle
So I’m reading this article( <—– click here to read it) about NFL Player Ryan Moats and his run-in with a stupid police officer. Once you read the article you will see that the undertone of the whole thing is that the officer has no common sense. Here’s the situation and ask yourself what you would do on both sides of the coin;
The Moats family gets a call from the ER saying that his wife’s mother is in the Emergency room and is about to pass away. You jump in the car and rush to the hospital. On the way there you could care less about red lights, green lights, stop signs and all that. Your focus is to get there before she passes. In your rush you run a red light right before you get to the hospital. A cop sees it and follows you into the parking lot. Not only do you run the light but in your rush you park at the first available park you can get to. Remember your Mother is on her deathbed and you want to at least see her that one last time right? So in your rush, to top it off, you illegally park. At this point the officer comes up to you, with gun drawn, telling you to put your hands up. You explain to the officer that your mother is dying in there and you want to see her before she passes. He’s not feeling this at all. He tells you to give him your info and refuses to even acknowledge that you’re full of grief and just want to see her that one last time. He’s just being an all around jerk. You finally realize that he’s an asshole so you comply with all his requests, even as two, not one but two, nurses come out to tell him what’s going on and an additional officer arrives on the scene and says he should let you go. He then after writing you a ticket lectures you for another few minutes. 20 minutes has gone by and your mother- in- law has already passed.
Now I understand that he ran a red light, and parked illegally, but what would the officer have done if the shoe was on the other foot? I mean 2 nurses come out to tell you what’s really going on and you’re still being an ass about it. I don’t get it. I know it’s his job and that Mr. Moats broke the law by running the red light but certain circumstances call for certain provisions. I mean use a little compasion and common sense here. Once you realize the situation, you have to assess it for what it is and do the right thing. Let this one go.
I had a similar incident happen to me. When Boogie was about 7-8 months, actually it started when he was younger than that, he kept getting these ear infections. After a while the medication wasn’t working. Well this particular ear infection was a bad one. He couldn’t tolerate the meds, food, milk or even water. So off we go to the emergency room. So we spent all day and night there as the doctors tried their best to do all kinds of stuff. At the time I worked at the hospital in the emergency room so I don’t know if that was an added dose to make them work harder but they tried everything. the hospital isn’t the best when it comes to treating kids because there just aren’t that many that come through after birth. So anyway it’s about 2-3 am and they decide to transfer him to Children’s hospital in St. Louis, right across the bridge. My wife and son leave in the ambulance and after getting things squared with my boss, I follow. At this point I’m flying doing about 80-85 in a 45mph zone. I see the cops lights right before I turn into the hospital parking area. I turn in and they block me in, one in front and one in back, and come out with guns drawn. Once I explain to them what was going on they decide not to give me a ticket. Yes, he did give me a short lecture but common sense and compassion prevailed in that situation and he realized that under normal circumstances I would not have broken the law. Of course they checked to verify my story but let me go ahead and see my son.
Cops are charged with the duty to protect and serve, but common sense and compassion should also come along with the job. Common sense is not always so common though. I don’t think that’s something you can learn, you either have it or you don’t. What say you?
I constantly hear that there are no good black men left and how the ones left are either gay, married or in jail. Well, I just gotta say that I don’t think that’s true. Maybe it’s just the dudes that you’re wanting are gay, married or in jail. That doesn’t mean the ones that you need are in that situation. Why is it that black men are always the ones that seem to be the problem? I believe that there are plenty of eligible black men out there if you look in the right places. The constant put downs that ‘black men aren’t this’ and ‘black men aren’t that’ really irks me. I am not in that situation since I already have my queen but I still feel the need to address the situation.
How come black men seem to be the only race that is “trifling”? So white men don’t leave their wives or have children out of wedlock? What makes you think that just because you’re successful that we are intimidated of you? Maybe it’s the attitude that turns us away not the success. Truth be told, we love to see a successful black woman doing her thing! That is applauded behavior that any black man would love to be attached to. There are plenty of examples that I’ve heard. Too many to go through but I know that you’ve heard them as well.
Since I’m in Atlanta and there is a large number of gay black men here I can sometimes forgive this lame excuse. For the most part though I’m not buying it. Yes there are a lot of gay black men here but there are also good straight men as well. Maybe you’re not looking in the right spots. I doubt you’ll find them at the club doing the stanky leg. Like anything, it’s about the company you keep. If you’re looking in the gutter you’ll find rats and garbage. The better the search the better the result. You might want to step your google game up.
I just get tired of hearing this same excuse over and over. Maybe it’s not us black men, maybe it’s dare I say, you black women. I mean everybody wants that baller or shot caller but are you baller or shot caller material? Bosses hang with bosses. You’re not gonna see the CEO going out to lunch with the janitor. Not that it’s anything wrong with that but you get my drift. “You are who you associate yourself with”. To be the best you must be with the best.
If every relationship you’ve had with a black man was horrible, was it really bad or was it preconceived to go badly? did you come into the relationship with this “black men ain’t shit” mentality or did it just not work out? Every relationship isn’t going to be a home run. If a black man isn’t your thing try another race, why are we limited to just one race anyway? I’ve dated just about every race except white, and that’s because I just didn’t find one at the time that I was attracted to. You severely limit yourself if you stick to something that you have already convinced yourself isn’t going to work for whatever reason. Why do we (as in black men) have to suffer because of what someone else did?
I guess what I’m trying to say is before you go bashing ALL black men, you should reexamine yourself and what it is you really need as opposed to want. Stop with the bashing. it’s not a good look. You don’t hear white women bashing their men or any other race for that matter. why do we have to do it? that’s so lame.
Okay so as I’m getting re acclimated to my laptop and perusing around the innanetz, i’m bombarded with all kinds of emails, im’s, tweets and websites talking about this Chris Brown and Rihanna thing. If that’s your thing then cool, do you but it’s stuff out there that’s bigger than that. Yeah I understand the whole domestic violence issue but what about the 15 year old girl that got molly whopped by two big ole cops while in their custody? I had first heard this story a while ago (around the time of the unfortunate situation in the Bay area) but it went under my radar because there wasn’t any video. Recently there has been video that surfaced. Why it took a year for this to come out is your guess just as good as mine but nonetheless it is out and unfortunately will probably go unnoticed because the people that usually talk about and air out these type of things are wondering why Chris and Rihanna were in Miami and if they secretly got married.
Look, all I’m saying is that it’s bigger issues going on right now rather than copy catting and reporting the same news that every other news outlet is posting. Remember the Jena 6? So many bloggers picked up on it that the media had to take notice. I’m not trying to be all self righteous like I only talk about social ills and such but I just get tired of reading the same thing every time I go to these different sights or seeing the same thing tweeted or hearing the same thing over and over. Not even like they change it up and kick it from their perspective, nope. They just tell it straight like the other person.
Okay that’s the end of my rant. On to happier/different stuff.
After being home with my son all day every day for the past 2-3 weeks, I think I sorta understand what it’s like to be a single parent. Only difference is that when Mommy comes home, I can have a break or do some of the things that I couldn’t do with just me and him. I tip my hat to any and all single parents. I truly do. I don’t see how you do it day in and day out and still have the time/energy to do other things as well. I’m still looking out for that 25th hour that some of you guys seem to have.
I really need to start going to bed before 3 am. It’s really messing me up.
Aiight so on that note I’m out.
So I’m back from my little forced hiatus. There have been a few changes since my last post. First let’s get into why I was gone. My laptop caught a nasty virus that basically destroyed my hard drive so I had to get it replaced. The good thing about it was that it gave me a chance to upgrade the size of the hard drive and ram. The bad part is that I now have to find the gagillion website that I bookmarked and install all my programs again. Major pain!! Anyway, I’m back and will hopefully post some more stuff soon.
So there’s been a bunch of stuff going on since I last left you guys. Let’s see.. Hmm… Okay, the Chris/Rihanna thing *not gonna talk to much about it*, AIG just blew threw/wasted $60 Billion in one quarter and need another bailout, I now work from home, CW is pulling the plug on ‘The Game’. There’s a lot more I’m sure but those are the things I’ll discuss this go ’round.
Aiight so The Chris/Rihanna this is just dead wrong. That’s all I’m saying on that one.
I can’t believe AIG is $60 billion in debt once again! Kinda glad I don’t work there anymore because it doesn’t look like things are going to get any better anytime soon.
I’m working from home now. I make a little less than I did before but it equals out once you add in savings on gas and such. It’s cool but I just have to work on my attention skills. *It’s about the size of a nat’s brain.* I can’t complain though, in this economy I’m happy to have a job. It’s just hard for me to focus with Boogie aka Squirt aka Prince aka King *yes he changes his name daily* running around crazy. Of course, like anything I’ll make it work.
I heard from my sister Sane that they are going to or have already pulled the plug on one of my favorite shows ‘The Game’. Now you know I’m pissed off about this right! This was the last of the black sitcoms. I doubt if it’ll even get a final show. They’ll just do it the same way they did ‘Girlfriends’ and ‘Moesha’. They should at least finish out this season, I mean how am I gonna find out if Derwin & Med school broke up for good and what about the baby? Who’s the black girl that Jason moved on with? So many questions will have to go unanswered. This sucks major! Not as bad as say the economy but that was an escape I had from reality for about 30 minutes a week. I should have seen it’s demise when they started playing it on BET.
Since I’ve been home I have been watching a large amount of daytime television and I must say… Daytime TV sucks major! I mean nothing really interesting comes on. I used to think that I was missing so much when I was away at school or work during the day but nope! not missing much. I do like watching Regis & Kelly, Maury * the morning show because that’s the DNA results episodes* and The View, but other than that there’s not to much else. Dr. Phil but that comes on in the afternoon so it doesn’t really count. I do watch a lot of Noggin* It’s like preschool on TV* with the yungin.
I think that’s about it for me. What’s been going on in your world?
*Update- I just checked my Dvr and there will be a new (possibly the last) episode of ‘ The Game’ coming on March 13th At 8:30 pm est 7:30 pm cst so set your Tivo’s, Dvr’s, watches, phones, time clocks or whatever you need to do to remind yourself!*
I wanted to say something earlier about this whole Bill O’Reilly/Dennis Miller vs Jay Z/Jeezy issue but refrained from doing so. But I can’t let it go.
As you may or may not know I always come to the defense of hip hop when ‘outsiders’ try to demean or denigrate the art form that I love. I defended Luda when he expressed how he felt about Madame Secretary Hillary Clinton. Like I said then, I’ll say now. I may not agree with his choice of words but I understand and agree with the point he was making. So back to the whole ‘President is black’ debacle…
I was over at Eb the Celeb’s spot * Hey Eb!!! What up!!* and I saw this post (<—click here)and I felt that it summed up what I am feeling to a tee. So hop on over and read it, but before you do I’m gonna give you just a taste of how I feel.
Okay first I gotta say that Nas really REALLY disappointed me on this one! I mean they more than likely picked him for this song because of his ability to make conscious records right? Does he bring that to this politically charged track? No!! He’s rapping about strippers, rose gold and rims. What the hell? Smarten up Nas! Now personally, I don’t think the song was offensive or inappropiate for the moment. Maybe it’s because I’m a big Jeezy/Jay Z fan and that’s overriding my senses, but to me the song was not that offensive. Just like in Luda’s case I’m sure some of the things said could have been said differently but what ever happened to freedom of speech? I mean really? It’s the first amendent to the constitution!
Now in the same token that goes both ways. Mr. O’reilly and Dennis Miller are protected under that same amendment to say whatever they feel about hip hop and that song/show but I also have that right to state that I disagree with them. Not fully, but partially disagree. They did present a good argument that that may not have been the right place but who are they to say when and where I can express my support or non support for the president or anybody?
My issue is that there are way worse things going on and that have happened than a song supporting and showing love for the first African American president. I mean we made history, can we relish in it for just a bit? Not too long though because we have work to do, but just for a little while. Why does it seem that he is constantly attacking Hip hop? *Sidenote; I’m still mad that nobody stood up for those Dixie Chicks when they were anti war/Bush and Toby Keith went hard on them with that wack ass patriotic song he made! If I was blogging back then I would have had their backs!!* Life is so much bigger than rap!
Anyway check out my girl Eb’s Post
Peace Sincere
*Update: So here’s the remix to the Remix that Bill & Dennis were talking about. This time Jeezy goes in on them, along with Bernard Maddow and a little extra on Former President Bush
It surprises me everyday at what we allow ourselves to be subjected to without even giving it a second thought. I really do believe that some of us have become so oversensitive to things that it has desensitized us. Or maybe I’m just one of those that thinks everything is a jab at something. to understand what I’m saying peep this.
Is it me or this racist? I mean they haven’t done anything like this for any other president. I get the whole idea of them doing it for whatever reason * They say that this is in recognition of one of the most defining moments in history and that they will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Thurgood Marshall college fund as a part of their continuing and longstanding commitment with the urban community. * I‘m not hating, but I’m just saying.. I find it kind of offensive but that’s just me. I mean there’s already a liquor store on just about every corner in the hood, so I guess they’re trying to capitalize off this as well.
Here’s another example.
*That’s Oklahoma State Senator Judy Easton Mcintyre on the right, if you were wondering*
I truly don’t like this. I mean an afro with the pick in it? come on we have got to do better! I really can’t see any black person proudly wearing this. but I guess I’m wrong. When I showed this to a couple of folks I got mixed reviews. Some offended, some wanted to know where to get it and some didn’t care either way. I can’t endorse this buffoonery. Sorry no sir/ma’am, not me. Not happening.
Oh and don’t forget these to go along with your shirt
Don’t worry I’m sure they come in all kinds of shades and colors… *closing the browser tab as I shake my head in disgust* But for real, you may want to cop those kicks because if you plan on going than you will have to walk everywhere!
I’m sure, matter of fact I know there are plenty of products out there made just to cash in on the 44th president, but please be aware that we are on display and this buffoonery needs to stop. I’m just tired of it. I knew that it would get worse as the inauguration event drew closer, but come on. I’m sure that on the 21st videos and pics of all kinds of stuff will be swirling around the internet. Like I said earlier, we have got to do better! Remember, The Inauguration is not Freaknik DC okay? Okay. Let’s celebrate it with the type of class that it deserves.
Okay so I heard this song a little bit ago as it was making it’s way around youtube and emails and I have to say it’s pretty offensive on many levels to many people. I understand that this is a satirical piece (similar to the cover of The New Yorker, with Barack dressed like Osama Bin Laden and Michelle as Angela Davis, months ago). I get that it’s supposed to be offensive and cause a stir, but when is offensive too offensive? when do we realize that even though controversy sells, it lowers our image and integrity. Come on people, we have to wisen up a bit. It’s a new day.
Larry Elder.
I have seen this guy around quite a bit on these news channels and it’s always the same. He’s an ass. Bottom line, no way around it. He’s written a few books (which I won’t plug by name or supply a website for to support) that I guess makes him feel he’s an expert on things. He’s a black republican, which I have no problem with. Heck, I’m a black libertarian/independent. But I mention that he is a black republican because it seems to me that in his eyes the republican party can do no wrong. At least that’s how it seems to be to me. He calls himself the “Sage from South Central” but seems more like the “Coon from California”. Dude seems, and his bio shows, highly educated but like Nana Sincere says ‘you can pay for school, but you can’t buy class”. Honestly, he’s real hit and miss with me though. it’s like he panders to the audience or host as opposed to be real and true to how he really feels about something.
Now back to the video. I understand we live in a politically correct world and that we are way too oversensitive when it comes to any and everything but did that somehow desensitize us? Has oversensitivity actually desensitized us? Hmmm… What I mean by that is, are we the little boy on the mountain? Have we been crying wolf for so long that when something offensive actually comes along that we can’t recognize it for what it really is?
So I was cruising Myspace *Yes Meshia, I’m back on Myspace!* and I came across a blog post from my cousin, Saint Lewis, and it was titled “Hip Hop ain’t dead, these dudes is just scared.” In the post he talks about how real hip hop is still around but is overshadowed by current music played on the radio. *I’m paraphrasing of course, and he put it so much more eloquently.* This got me thinking about a post I did back on Myspace about 2 -3 yrs ago, back when D4L and Franchise Boys first started to pop. It was an open letter to hip hop stating how much I love it but that maybe we needed some time apart to grow together.
I feel like since then there have been some great strides in hip hop but there is still more of that “I got money so girl shake ya ass” type of music overshadowing real MC’s. That’s just my honest opinion. I can’t speak for anyone else but my Zune is filled with artists that don’t even get radio play. I don’t blame it all on ‘the machine’ and I don’t put the full blame of the artists *I use that term loosely* either. it’s a split. I feel that artists should have more integrity and not make certain music just because that’s what’s popular. The popular thing to do isn’t always the right thing to do. I also feel that ‘the machine’ should take responsibility for the image that they are putting out there to the masses.
If I hear one more child singing a song that was made purposely with incorrect grammar I think I’ll scream! *Ahem, T.I.’s ‘Ain’t I’ for example*
Has anyone noticed that the best music in hip hop is not the mainstream stuff? There are a few mainstream artists that are doing real hip hop but artists like Wale *my favorite rapper right now*, Kid Cudi, The Insomniaks, Marky, 88 Keys, Currency & Christian Rich are a few just off the top of my head. These are some of the artists that get heavy rotation from me as of right now.
They talk about how the record industry is in a bad state because of downloading but I think it also has to do with the music that’s been put out as of late. People are not willing to spend the money to buy an album from some of these established artists if they feel they aren’t’ getting their money’s worth. With so much copy cat music going on can you blame them? Why buy an album of someone using autotune like T-pain when I already have the T-pain album, or why buy an album from this artist when it sounds just like this other artist? *just examples, but you get my drift. I hope…* So many artists seem to be putting out music just because. Not really for the love of the culture or for the fans but just to fill some contractual obligation *ahem LL* or because they are about to go away for a while *ahem T.I.* or just for themselves *ahem Kanye*. I have to agree with 50 cent on one thing. If you come out and say I’m making this album for myself than you should keep that to yourself! I’m all for artist expression but you have to remember your audience. For example, right now as I type this I have to think about my audience as well as myself. I could write this post for myself and not care what my audience thinks but what would be the point of me posting it and putting it out there? I might as well just scribble this in my journal with my other personal stuff that will never be read by anyone else. Right? Am I just way off base with that or what?
I keep hearing people saying that hip hop isn’t dead it lives in *insert your local area/coast here*. Does that matter if it all sounds the same?
I was watching ‘Fade to Black’ about a week ago and Jay was in the studio talking to some people and one of the young rappers in the room made a good statement to sum up how I feel. He said *paraphrasing of course* that rappers these days are scared to say what they really feel because they don’t think that it’ll sell records. Sad. What do you do when you’re afraid to express yourself in an art form that is all about self expression? You play follow the leader. If MC killa just sold 1 million records talking about killing, then I guess I better make up some goon stories so I can sell a million too. Instead of creating my own lane I’ll just follow you in yours. We have got to be willing to take the road less traveled.
There’s a lot more I can say on hip hop, *music in general really* but I don’t want to take up too much of your time so I’ll leave it at that.
I honestly have no earthly idea what happened but somehow blogger has deleted ALL of my links. I have added some of them back but I can’t remember every single blog that was listed. So now is the time to have your blog added or re-added to the list! Just reply with your link and it’s as good as up there. Thanks a milli!!
