Endearing Vs Derogatory… You Decide
Okay, so I’m perusing through my Google reader and came across this video of a gay dude repeatedly saying bitch. It got me thinking, how is this okay? I mean if he was straight and called a woman a bitch then all hell would break loose but because he’s gay it’s okay? I call bullshit! No woman should allow anyone to call her that. It doesn’t matter if that person is male or female, gay or straight.
As a culture, generation and society it seems that our standards have been deminished. we degrade our women and they allow themselves to be degraded. We praise ignorance and shun education. This is something that must change. This is not acceptable behavior.
I know that I am far from perfect but I do try and set a good example. At least what I feel is good. But with that, different people have different interpretations of good and bad, or right and wrong. What’s right to one may be wrong to another. There is no clear cut answer as to what either one is to each person, it’s left up to the individual to decide.
I know I got a little off topic but it all relates back to one person being able to say one thing while another can’t. it’s crazy because I understand that it’s not always what you say but the way you say it. I was told that you can say a word in an endearing or derogatory way. The same word just different tone. So the gay dude can call you a bitch in a mean way, but the straight guy can’t. It’s just crazy. I mean I was watching this video and he/she was talking about some woman and calling her a bitch so much that I thought that was her government name. If this video wasn’t by “Timaya“ <— spotted at crunktastical.net but was made by a straight guy named “Timothy” would it be okay? No. People would light his ass up! To me it’s the same as a white person saying Nigger and a black person saying Nigga. Same word, two different tones turning it into an endearing vs derogatory situation.
All in all it’s just not a good look either way. What are your thoughts?

You know I have been the victim of being called a bitch by a gay dude and that shit cut even worst because some believe that they can out woman a real woman. I still wanted to cut his cunty ass its not okay most of society is in the toilet though sin-c what can we do except protest every step of the way.

what up Ms J!
I just believe that what’s not right for one is not right for all. Of course you can’t apply this one size fits all/most mentality to everything but when it comes to language you can. I just don’t get how someone can be disrespected in the same way by two different people but it’s okay dependent on who it comes from. Yeah, I guess we’ll just have to be the change that we want to see… *sigh*

As always, you make a GREAT point, Sin. I too saw and watched that Timaya video a few days ago, and I ain’t gon’ lie, I laughed, but for all the wrong reasons. I don’t know why I or the rest of us just equate the word “bitch” with gay men, maybe because they refer to themselves as such so much that it desensitzes us over it. I laughed at Timaya because of how animated he was and at how much effort he put into applying for McDonalds of all places but you know what? You’re absolutely right though, because it is a double standard. Being referred to as a “bitch” shouldn’t be seen as okay by anybody, gay or straight. It’s weird though cause if you were to ask somebody who uses that word on a regular basis, why they refer to certain women as that, they say it’s because said female has a strong, in your face, type attitude and you know what? That’s sad that that’s the most popular word that’s chosen to be used to describe such a woman. This is definately a topic worth discussing though.

Hey Sane!
The video was funny and like you said, for all the wrong reasons! If he put as much time and energy into getting a job as he did in making that video he’d be okay! All that drama for a job at McDonald’s? lmao
I asked my little cousin why she uses it with her friends and she gave me the exact same reason. She uses it as an endearing term to mean that they are in charge and doing there thing or whatever. I just think we’ve lowered our standards.

Yeah, I’ve noticed in the gay community I’ve heard gay men refer to each other as “bitch” along with straight females. I personally don’t call another woman or a gay guy a “Bitch”. To me, it goes hand in hand with using the “N” word. It’s not a term of endearment whatsoever. I’m surprised gays don’t call each other “Fags” or “homos” as a term of endearment and that’s the lowest of the low.
