The NFL Can Wait, My Education Comes First

Now these are the types of stories I like to hear about. All – American Safety Myron Rolle of Florida State University has decided that instead of entering the upcoming NFL draft (he was projected 1st or 2nd round pick) he will go across the pond to Oxford University as a Rhodes scholar. This is proof that education is more important to some people. it’s not all about the money. They both were once in a lifetime types of opportunities and he chose to continue his education over entering the draft. I applaud this type of behavior. He passed up millions of dollars to do this. How many can say they would do the same?

If I had taken my education more seriously there’s no telling where I would be. If a bunch of people would follow this example there’s no telling how great they could become. Not saying that everyone will be Rhodes scholars and have an opportunity to study at Oxford but if they put education above all then the sky’s the limit.

I wish there were more feel good stories like this on the front page instead of buried in a link close to the bottom of the web page.

This is something that children or anybody can read and find inspiration from even if they never get to experience that level. they can aspire to be more than they originally thought they could be. Check out the article by clicking here.

Myron Rolle is now one of my heroes. If he ever makes it into the NFL, I’ll be rooting for him. I’m sure with the positive attitude that he hasno matter what he does he’ll succeed.

“I have a dream and I keep walking toward it every day. Take the necessary steps, and you’ll get there.”
- Myron Rolle, athlete and scholar

The Game Season 3 Episode 16 Recap

This episode starts off at the Pitts Home as Kelly has her two friends from high school, Tasha and med school over for a night of pampering. Of course Tasha is still salty about what happened with her and Rick and is hating on everybody. Med school is still obsessed with talking about Derwin. As they all start arguing Kelly *aka Lushy* jumps up and tells them to relax and keep drinking. This is when Tasha finds out that Kelly is still working at the firm after Tasha was fired. Tasha thinks that Kelly’s a two faced, low budget backstabbing bitch and walks out.

On the set of “Sports Circle” aka ‘Sportscenter’… The Guys (Malik, Jason and Derwin) are planning an appearance to represent the Sabers. *probably a past (Jason) present (Malik) and future (Derwin) type of gig. *back to this later.*

Over at the firm… Irv is looking for Kelly as she runs and hides because she thinks that they forgot to fire her when they fired Tasha. *Only makes sense seeing as she was Tasha’s assistant.* Rick sees her and asks how Tasha is doing. As she sees Irv coming she hides under the desk. Irv sees her and in a classic “blonde moment” he yells ‘Marco’ and what does she say? Of course ‘Polo’! Busted!! come to find out that he doesn’t want to fire her but wants her as his assistant for double the salary and Tasha’s old office. She takes it.

Back at Sports Circle… The guys are being interviewed by an anchor named Camille *played by the ever so fine, hasn’t aged in a day since Clueless, Stacey Dash* When she asks what happened from last year’s super bowl winning season and this years disappointment Derwin speaks up and says that it’s because last year he was on the field and this season he’s not. That’s what happened. Claiming to be the reason for the Sabers success. The three of them bicker about which one of them is the reason for their success. Seems that Camille is interested in Jason. Tasha arrives to take Malik to lunch and overhears Irv talking to Tasha about some office work and decides to get revenge by hooking Camille up with Jason.

Back with med school… She is still talking about Derwin, this time to Kelly’s two girlfriends as she takes them to see Kelly at her job. They run into Rick Fox and act like total fans taking pics and all!! Then one of Kelly’s friends says that she would let him ‘Sock her in the face’.  *For real? You really wrote that for her to say with all the domestic violence stuff going on? I may be wrong but I rewound it like 4 times* then her friend says that she would let anyone ‘sock her in the face’. *What the hell? Maybe that’s white people slang for something else, I hope* Anyway, As they talk more with Kelly they realize that Med school brought them there not only to see Kelly’s job but because Derwin is repped by that firm and might run into him. *Desperate* Then she acts like she didn’t know that and decides to look around. The main goal was for them to keep med school busy so that she doesn’t have a ‘Derwin meltdown’ or whatever. Now as Kelly is doing some actual work, Bob from HR calls and she sends it to Irv only to overhear that the only reason that Tasha was hired was to get to Malik and since she couldn’t deliver he fired her. * Didn’t we already know that? They said that from the jump. Who they fooling? And another joke about punching a woman in the face. What the hell is going on? Am I missing something?*

At the Sabers training facility… The guys are working out and still talking about the interview and switch to talking about how Jason should hook up with Camille * and Derwin’s dumb ass doesn’t know who Anderson Cooper is*. Jason doesn’t feel like he’s ready not ready to get back out there and start dating yet. They feel he should go for it because he’s a relationship type of guy and is at his best when he’s in one.

At the Mack residence… Kelly comes over to tell her what she overheard Irv and Bob from HR talking about and plays a recording of it. She now knows that Rick had nothing to do with it and feels horrible. They become friends again and Kelly tries to help her get Rick back. *okay anybody remember what happened last week when she tried to help med school get Derwin back? Fail*.

At a restaurant… Tasha meets with Rick in hopes of apologizing and rekindling their relationship. He forgives her but hits her with his own news. He is going to focus on his career and is moving to the firm’s Miami office. As he leaves and she’s sitting there trying to get her emotions together she sees Jason and Camille come in for dinner.

Back at the agency… Med school comes around the corner after her search for Derwin is complete to find everyone gone but one person. She asks her if she knows or has seen Derwin, when she says that she doesn’t know him she instantly starts talking about their failed relationship. As she’s babbling on and on about it the young lady gets up to leave with med school in tow still talking as they end this episode.

First thing,  Am I the only one that noticed the violence references inserted as jokes on this one? First Kelly’s friend saying she’d let Rick Fox ‘Sock her in the face’ and then Irv saying Tasha looks like she could take a ‘punch to the face’. What is going on?
Okay this episode was pretty good. Let’s start with Tasha. In a way I feel bad for her because she did overreact and it cost her the relationship, but in a way I don’t. I’m tired of women (and some men) taking their baggage and bruises from one bad relationship into every other relationship they have. when you do that you’ll end up like Tasha and lose what should have rightfully been yours. Every relationship is not the same. You gotta wipe that slate clean and start fresh. The whole thing with her getting fired is not new news. I mean he
told her when he hired her that if she couldn’t get Malik then he
didn’t want her. She begger him to give her a chance to stay regardless
so he did. I’m not understanding why this is new news to her, unless
the new news is that Rick had nothing to do with her being fired. Maybe
that’s it.

I hope Jason hits it off with Camille and moves on from Kelly. If only to see Stacey Dash on more episodes! No, seriously  I think it’s time they move on. Kelly is such a Lush!! (<— click here for definition. she’s # 3 or 4.)

Med school is becoming more and more desperate and looking mighty thirsty (<— Definition) right about now. I mean give it up. I understand that he may be the love of your life but it didn’t work out so give it up and move on. She is really irking my nerves!

Okay so that’s my synopsis of this week’s episode. What say you?

Common Sense Not Always So Common

So I’m reading this article ( <—– click here to read it) about NFL Player Ryan Moats and his run-in with a stupid police officer. Once you read the article you will see that the undertone of the whole thing is that the officer has no common sense. Here’s the situation and ask yourself what you would do on both sides of the coin;
The Moats family gets a call from the ER saying that his wife’s mother is in the Emergency room and is about to pass away. You jump in the car and rush to the hospital. On the way there you could care less about red lights, green lights, stop signs and all that. Your focus is to get there before she passes. In your rush you run a red light right before you get to the hospital. A cop sees it and follows you into the parking lot. Not only do you run the light but in your rush you park at the first available park you can get to. Remember your Mother is on her deathbed and you want to at least see her that one last time right? So in your rush, to top it off, you illegally park. At this point the officer comes up to you, with gun drawn, telling you to put your hands up. You explain to the officer that your mother is dying in there and you want to see her before she passes. He’s not feeling this at all. He tells you to give him your info and refuses to even acknowledge that you’re full of grief and just want to see her that one last time. He’s just being an all around jerk. You finally realize that he’s an asshole so you comply with all his requests, even as two, not one but two, nurses come out to tell him what’s going on and an additional officer arrives on the scene and says he should let you go. He then after writing you a ticket lectures you for another few minutes. 20 minutes has gone by and your mother- in- law has already passed.
Now I understand that he ran a red light, and parked illegally, but what would the officer have done if the shoe was on the other foot? I mean 2 nurses come out to tell you what’s really going on and you’re still being an ass about it. I don’t get it. I know it’s his job and that Mr. Moats broke the law by running the red light but certain circumstances call for certain provisions. I mean use a little compasion and common sense here. Once you realize the situation, you have to assess it for what it is and do the right thing. Let this one go.
I had a similar incident happen to me. When Boogie was about 7-8 months, actually it started when he was younger than that, he kept getting these ear infections. After a while the medication wasn’t working. Well this particular ear infection was a bad one. He couldn’t tolerate the meds, food, milk or even water. So off we go to the emergency room. So we spent all day and night there as the doctors tried their best to do all kinds of stuff. At the time I worked at the hospital in the emergency room so I don’t know if that was an added dose to make them work harder but they tried everything. the hospital isn’t the best when it comes to treating kids because there just aren’t that many that come through after birth. So anyway it’s about 2-3 am and they decide to transfer him to Children’s hospital in St. Louis, right across the bridge. My wife and son leave in the ambulance and after getting things squared with my boss, I follow. At this point I’m flying doing about 80-85 in a 45mph zone. I see the cops lights right before I turn into the hospital parking area. I turn in and they block me in, one in front and one in back, and come out with guns drawn. Once I explain to them what was going on they decide not to give me a ticket. Yes, he did give me a short lecture but common sense and compassion prevailed in that situation and he realized that under normal circumstances I would not have broken the law. Of course they checked to verify my story but let me go ahead and see my son.
Cops are charged with the duty to protect and serve, but common sense and compassion should also come along with the job. Common sense is not always so common though. I don’t think that’s something you can learn, you either have it or you don’t. What say you?

Good Black Men Do Exist

I constantly hear that there are no good black men left and how the ones left are either gay, married or in jail. Well, I just gotta say that I don’t think that’s true. Maybe it’s just the dudes that you’re wanting are gay, married or in jail. That doesn’t mean the ones that you need are in that situation. Why is it that black men are always the ones that seem to be the problem? I believe that there are plenty of eligible black men out there if you look in the right places. The constant put downs that ‘black men aren’t this’ and ‘black men aren’t that’ really irks me.  I am not in that situation since I already have my queen but I still feel the need to address the situation.

How come black men seem to be the only race that is “trifling”? So white men don’t leave their wives or have children out of wedlock? What makes you think that just because you’re successful that we are intimidated of you? Maybe it’s the attitude that turns us away not the success. Truth be told, we love to see a successful black woman doing her thing! That is applauded behavior that any black man would love to be attached to. There are plenty of examples that I’ve heard. Too many to go through but I know that you’ve heard them as well.

Since I’m in Atlanta and there is a large number of gay black men here I can sometimes forgive this lame excuse. For the most part though I’m not buying it. Yes there are a lot of gay black men here but there are also good straight men as well. Maybe you’re not looking in the right spots. I doubt you’ll find them at the club doing the stanky leg. Like anything, it’s about the company you keep. If you’re looking in the gutter you’ll find rats and garbage. The better the search the better the result. You might want to step your google game up.

I just get tired of hearing this same excuse over and over. Maybe it’s not us black men, maybe it’s dare I say, you black women. I mean everybody wants that baller or shot caller but are you baller or shot caller material? Bosses hang with bosses. You’re not gonna see the CEO going out to lunch with the janitor. Not that it’s anything wrong with that but you get my drift. “You are who you associate yourself with”. To be the best you must be with the best.

If every relationship you’ve had with a black man was horrible, was it really bad or was it preconceived to go badly? did you come into the relationship with this “black men ain’t shit” mentality or did it just not work out? Every relationship isn’t going to be a home run. If a black man isn’t your thing try another race, why are we limited to just one race anyway? I’ve dated just about every race except white, and that’s because I just didn’t find one at the time that I was attracted to. You severely limit yourself if you stick to something that you have already convinced yourself isn’t going to work for whatever reason. Why do we (as in black men) have to suffer because of what someone else did?

I guess what I’m trying to say is before you go bashing ALL black men, you should reexamine yourself and what it is you really need as opposed to want. Stop with the bashing. it’s not a good look. You don’t hear white women bashing their men or any other race for that matter. why do we have to do it? that’s so lame.

The Game Season 3 Episode 15 Recap

This episode starts with Tasha and Lev at a meeting with Irv and he is talking about downsizing the company because of the economy. Lev suggests that Rick gets axed but Tasha fights for him to stay. They end up firing someone else in his place.

Back at the house… Tasha and Rick seem to be about to get it on but she seems distant. When asked what’s going on with her she spills the beans and tells him that his name came up in talks of layoffs. she tells him that he needs to be on his P’s & Q’s and close his next deal to show them that he’s serious.

We’re moving on to The Pitts’ residence… Med school is going on and on about how Derwin is waiting for her to make the next move and all kinds of foolishness as Kelly exercises. * give it up Med school, I told you, he’s just not that into you*. Seems Kelly is a little preoccupied with Jason forgetting her birthday. * even though they are getting the divorce that she initiated*.

Over at Malik’s loft… Malik and his father are spending some time together getting to know each other. He’s grilling him about why he never looked for him. Turns out that whenever he tried to reach out Tasha turned him away. * Evil, just evil*

Back at Tasha’s place… Rick and Tasha just finished watching a movie aka cram session * she learned everything about the business from movies*. When Rick starts talking about the time they spend together Tasha goes all Fatal Attraction on him because she thinks he’s breaking up with her. He really wanted to tell her that he loves her and wants to marry her! She says yes, kind of… She wants him to think about it and ask again in 3 days to make sure he’s not caught up in her saving his job and all.

Back at the office… Jason shows up to talk to Kelly with a bouquet of flowers. Only thing is, the flowers aren’t for her. He just caught the delivery guy in the lobby and dropped them off to some other chick because he was coming up that way. *cold blooded! she really thought they were for her* When Kelly gets up upset and tells Tasha she’s going on a run, why did Tasha have on a Tiara like she’s a princess!? Rick comes in and tells her that things went well with his client so his job is not on the line anymore. Hopefully.

Back to Med school and Derwin… Med school is still calling/stalking Derwin leaving a voicemail saying that she have a flat tire and that she’s stuck. Just hamming it up to make him feel bad if he doesn’t come. Then this chick gets out and flattens her own tire by puncturing it. * so desperate it’s sad*

Meanwhile at Malik’s loft… His dad is getting ready to leave to get back to his family and his job. Malik only wants him to stay and make up for the last 20 some odd years that he missed. He decides to stay.

Back at the campus hospital… As med school is awaiting * or thinks* Derwin coming a man approaches to help her with her tire she turns them down. She then sees Kelly run by and stops her to question why she’s running through a parking lot. She thinks that if she keeps running then she won’t think of being alone. Now she is second guessing the divorce. Derwin actually shows up after all. *Surprise surprise. You know the boy is soft hearted.* But he’s not alone. He shows up with Janay in the Porsche. Med school now has to ride in the tiny back as they take her to get her tire fixed. * HA!!! that’s what she gets!*

Back at the office… They are watching some old football footage when Irv walks in and has a list of names that need to report immediately to the conference room with their parking passes. He picks Rick and two others. When Tasha tries to intervene he shuts her down.

After the game… Derwin is getting ready to board the bus when he sees med school among the screaming fans waiting for them outside the stadium. *this chick flew all the way to Boston from San Diego* She came to tell him that the whole thing with Him and Janay is just a reaction to her and the doctor and that he doesn’t have to be with Janay anymore because she broke it off with the doctor *selfish ass!*. it’s not that simple though because Derwin is going to try and make things work with Janay. * HA! In your face med school!!* He feels he owes it to his son to give him a real family. When she says that his son would want him (Derwin)to be happy and asks if he’s happy, he hits her to the core with ‘Yes Melanie I am.’ *Wow* And boards the bus leaving her standing there in the cold Boston air alone.

At the office… Rick and the other two employees sit in the conference room awaiting their fate. Come to find out that it’s the managers that he didn’t call into the room that are getting fired. A cruel joke Irv saw on American Idol and decided to try it out. And on top of that, because he closed the Michael Phelps deal he’s getting a promotion. Tasha bursts into the conference room thinking she’s saving him with proof that he signed Michael Phelps only to find out that they already know and he’s getting promoted for it. While she’s there though, Irv tells her that she’s getting laid off because of budget cuts, and that Rick is taking her parking space. Now she thinks that Rick has something to do with her getting fired and goes off on him. Then she bursts into song, singing Take a Bow by Rihanna. * What the hell Tasha! Singing? come on now.* Rick walks out upset and hurt as Tasha follows going separate ways. This ends this week’s episode.

Now, let’s start with Derwin and med school. She has really shown her desperate side. It’s like she thinks that she can do and say anything and Derwin will come running back with open arms. Wrong! sorry you feel that way, but it’s not happening anymore. Derwin’s toughened up a bit. I guess all the heartbreak she put him through has made him that way. Not to say that Derwin is totally innocent in this whole situation, but she comes out dirtier than him. I’m glad he’s moving on or at least trying.
Tasha really lost it in the end. I mean I can’t blame her. I would feel the same way, wouldn’t break into song but I would feel betrayed. She just needs to know the whole story and hopefully when she finds out they can work things out and move on. Irv was an ass for what he did though.

In My Mind…

As children we were taught that the sky is the limit and
that we could be whatever our heart desires. When did we give up on that
desire? When did ‘reality’ set in and we become complacent and willing to
settle for the next thing that comes along as opposed to waiting for the right
thing to come along.

Of course, as we grow older we realize, or someone realizes
this for us, that there are limitations to what we can and cannot do. Luck can
only take us so far. Once you run out of such luck, than we are like the uncoiled
wristwatch. Dead.
Now don’t misunderstand me here. I don’t mean dead in the
literal sense, though for some it may be, but in the figurative sense. This is
similar to the term, ‘dead end job’. You are stuck in this proverbial time warp
where the only thing that changes is the time and space around you while you
remain locked into your fixed position going nowhere. We are dead to space and
time.
I can remember as a kid being in elementary school and the
teacher asking what we wanted to be and me not having a clue. I usually just
said whatever the kid said two or three people ahead of me. Luckily I was never
picked first. It’s not like I didn’t want to be something wonderful or
successful when I grew up I just didn’t know what that thing was. Mentally I
was lost. My mother would always say that no matter what I did, she would love
me and be proud of me. Loving and comforting but not helping.
If you have done this before you’ll know what I’m talking
about and if you haven’t I suggest you do this. Go to a crowded room or place.
Be sure to get there early enough that it’s not crowded yet and focus on one
stationary person like an attendant or someone that has to stay in that one
spot. Wait for it. Wait for it. Okay now once the crowd begins to swell the
room, continue to focus on that person. Now pan that focus back. As you
continue to focus on the person they will eventually get lost in the crowd. I
am that person, the forest unseen because of the trees.

This is not a detriment to me or anyone else, by far. I stand just as
tall and distinguished as the others but that may be wherein the problem
lies.  There is no distinction between me and someone else. We are all the
same. All seem to be striving for the same goal in the same manner, whether our
tested method works or not. Individuality may eventually go the way of the Do
Do bird. Failure to evolve will cause our extinction.

I think we should go back to that child-like mindset and strive to be and do
what we feel no matter what others think or feel. To dream that impossible
dream we must first dream.

Just my thoughts…

The Game Season 3 Episode 14 Recap

Aaannnnd… we’re back.
This episode starts with Rick and Tasha coming back from dinner and about to get they’re freaking on *shouts to Elle from V103. I see you!* when Malik hops from behind the counter. Along with the homeboy T.T. They came over while she wasn’t there to find info on his dad because he knew she wouldn’t give it to him if he asked. He wants his dad’s number so she gives it to him.

Back at Malik’s crib.. Malik, now armed with his dad’s number decides to give him a call but can’t seem to get up the nerve to press the buttons. T.T. reminds him of a game they played when they were kids of calling random numbers trying to find Malik’s dad * and finding T.T.’s along the way*. Come to find out that Malik has still been doing that since they were 9 years old. With T.T.’s help he works up the courage to call the number only to have a female * whom I suspect is Tasha* answer the phone and say that there is no one there named Chauncey and hang up. Malik angrily tells T.T. to throw away the books with all the numbers as we walks off.

Over at The Pitts’ house… Med school is calling Derwin like crazy all week and he keeps sending her to voicemail. * oh yeah Team Derwin all day over here!* She doesn’t understand why he’s upset about her banging the doctor because they were in their “checking in” phase * What is up with that “checking in” bull anyway? Stooppidd <– Gucci Mane voice* Somehow Tasha switches the subject on to Malik looking for his real dad. * I believe he has a right to know who his real dad is. For better or worse* Turns out Tasha gave Malik the wrong number. * I knew it!!* She’s really bitter because Chauncey left her and went to college leaving her to raise malik on her own. Kelly gives her a pep talk and she decides to introduce Malik and Chauncey. * This can’t be good*

Checking in at Derwin’s Apartment… Derwin goes to answer the phone only to see that it’s Melanie and send it to voicemail. As he walks away there’s a knock at the door. It’s Janay! * Yay!! I’m happy to see her for some reason* He invited her over to show her the matching outfits he bought for the three of them for the first trip to the zoo. * awww..  I’m not a fan of matching outfits but hey, if you like it I love it* As Janay gets up to leave she tells him that he needs to stop with all the extra stuff like trying to paint the picture of them as this happy family and then running off  to Melanie. *I think he’s being genuine. Team Derwin All Day!*  Maybe she’s just a little too hormonal or something.

Back to Tasha’s spot… Tasha comes downstairs dressed up and all because Malik’s dad is coming over to meet and bond with Malik. She even hires a maid to boot, while trying to impress. Malik arrives unbeknownst * Yeah I’ve been reading* to Tasha’s plans. Come to find out that he’s actually over meeting his dad and is cool with not knowing him. *Ding dong* someone’s at the door and it’s none other than Punk Ass Chauncey! Tasha introduces them, Malik gives him the once over and says nothing just looks stunned and upset. Rick breaks the ice by introducing himself and having them all have a seat to talk. Punk ass Chauncey tries to strike up a convo with Malik but it’s just awkward. As Tasha and Chauncey try to make small talk they begin arguing and Malik jumps up and talks about how he hasn’t heard from him in forever and how Tasha only wants to impress him with stuff that he bought for her then storms out of the room.

Still checking in on Derwin… As he’s making himself a little lunch or whatever a knock is at his door. It’s Janay and she’s upset because he missed prenatal yoga with her. Then she goes into this hormonal induced fit about her weight and him being embarrased to be seen with her. Now she wants them to be togetherish. Of course poor Derwin is dazed and confused. She is really freaking out and tripping! As she starts crying he comforts her and becomes her shoulder to lean/cry on.

Out with Med school and Kelly… Kelly is trying to convince Med school that once Derwin sees that she’s accepted the baby then he’ll want to be back with her. *What is Kelly smoking? and What is Med school on because she’s agreeing with this foolishness? Derwin’s just not that into you anymore Med school!!!* As they are walking to their car they spot Janay and Derwin as well. Of course Kelly gives some more bad advice and tells her to go over and say something. Right before Mel is about to take her little happy ass over there they see Derwin and Janay in a passionate kiss. * yes!!! I’m so happy for some reason!!*

At Malik’s Crib… Malik is playing some video games when his buzzer goes off. He turns on the camera to see that it’s Punk Ass Chancey wanting to talk. Malik goes over to answer the door and straight punches Chauncey in the face before shutting the door on him. He eventually lets him in. As they talk he reveals some of his insecurities because his father wasn’t there. After a heart to heart he gives Malik his Cell phone number and leaves. Malik then dials the number and tearfully says ‘ What’s up dad’ ending this week’s episode. *Tear*

Okay I must say that this was a really great episode with the focus for me being Malik and his dad. That was a very touching moment. I grew up not knowing my father so I could relate to what Malik was going through. The last scene did get to me a little. I’m happy to see that they are at least trying to build a relationship.
So Derwin is finally over Med school!! Hey team Derwin, let’s hope this is for good this time. I’m so tired of Med school with her ‘have my cake and eat it too’ attitude! I’m sure some of you took off those team Melanie t shirts * Ahem.. what up Sane* and switched to that team Derwin one! It’s cool, we’ll still accept and love you the same.
Why am I so cised to see Derwin back with Janay? I don’t know, really. Maybe it’s my hatred for med school or maybe I just want Derwin to be happy because I see myself in him. Either way I’m glad they are back together or whatever they’re doing. It’s good to see her. She’s a refreshing face for the cast. They were getting kind of stale.
Okay so they do have a show scheduled for next week. Looks as though they will finish this season out. Hopefully they won’t cancel after this season. Let’s hold out hope.

Until next time…

The Dream – Love Vs. Money Album Review

There aren’t too many albums that make the “highly
anticipated” list as of late. Most are just copycats of each other, using the
same theme or lyrical content. It’s as if they are afraid to step out on their
own and create a new lane. The only R & B albums that made the list so far
this year for me are Jamie Foxx (phenomenal singer) and The Dream (exceptional
songwriter).  Since I was thoroughly
impressed with Mr. Foxx’s ‘Intuition’ it was now up to The Dream to deliver with
Love Vs Money’. Let’s see if he would succeed or fail.
Coming off the success of his debut album ‘Love Vs Hate’,
The Dream comes back with a similarly titled ‘Love Vs Money’. I must say that I
wasn’t expecting much. I’m just that way when it comes to music nowadays. I was
expecting something similar to the Vocoder heavy R & B that floods the
radio but I was pleasantly surprised.
This album is actually a great overall body of work.  Dare I say, probably one of the best albums to
come out this year and it’s only March.
He has raised the bar for the guys with this one.

The first single ‘Rockin that thing’ was not a major
selling point for me but I still gave the album a listen nonetheless.  This lackluster single was easily forgotten
and forgiven once I heard the likes of ‘Put it down’, ‘Kelly’s 12 play’ and
Love Vs Money’.

Below is my track by track breakdown of the album;

Rockin That Shit- As I mention earlier, this is the
first single off the album. Didn’t really grab my attention but it’s a radio friendly
tune.

Walking On The Moon
Feat Kanye West
– This up-tempo track gives you a futuristic yet nostalgic
feel. As if we were in the year 2085 trying to recreate a song from 1985. Think
a futuristic Debarge or Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam era music. This
is a straight dance track that Kanye puts his influence and final touch on
(minus the vocoder).

My Love Feat Mariah
Carey
– The second single off the album. This is a beautifully crafted love
song. He brings Mariah back to her glory with this one by having her focus on
singing within her range and not trying to recapture her 11 octave range youth.
She’s still one of the best in the game and demonstrates it here. A short sweet
song about not caring what people think and just being with that one you love.

Put It Down – The
title pretty much explains it all. This bass heavy ballad is guaranteed to help
make a new generation. Here he channels R. Kelly as he describes how he plans
to ‘put it down’ blow for blow. If this doesn’t get you lyrically then the
instrumental will and vice versa.

Sweat It Out
This is an extension or precursor to Put
It Down
. Here he advises that you call Latisha your beautician and make an
appointment because he’s about to make you sweat it out as he puts It down.
Here he takes you through the story from first meeting her to well, sweating it
out.

Take You Home 2 My Mama

– This head knocker is going to be a definite club staple.

Love Vs Money – An
extension of Take You Home 2 My Mama. This
futuristic synthesizer heavy track explains how some people want more than
money. They want love. Money is no match for love.

Love Vs Money Pt 2 – A
continuation of the previous track. Here he is upset as opposed to hurt, as
before, about the break up. Here, Love is actually the problem, not money.

Fancy – Another
ballad with a smooth melody and flow as he describes his dream girl. A Very
slow and seductive track.

Right Side Of My Brain
– The one vocoder heavy track about falling in love with
a heart breaker. A slow, reflective vibe. Not really one of the stronger songs
on the album but it can resonate lyrically with a lot of people.

Mr. Yeah – Back to
the up-tempo bass heavy beats on this one. A safe radio friendly tune.

Kelly’s 12 Play
Here he channels R. Kelly by paying homage to his infamous 12 Play as he explains how
he does what he does while listening to it.
Another ballad destined to help make a new generation.

This album was well put together from beginning to end.  I believe that he’s an exceptional writer and
will definitely give you your money’s worth.
This is a definite addition to the collection and I give it
4.5 out of 5.

Just Some Out Of The Blueness…

Okay so as I’m getting re acclimated to my laptop and perusing around the innanetz, i’m bombarded with all kinds of emails, im’s, tweets and websites talking about this Chris Brown and Rihanna thing. If that’s your thing then cool, do you but it’s stuff out there that’s bigger than that. Yeah I understand the whole domestic violence issue but what about the 15 year old girl that got molly whopped by two big ole cops while in their custody?  I had first heard this story a while ago (around the time of the unfortunate situation in the Bay area) but it went under my radar because there wasn’t any video. Recently there has been video that surfaced. Why it took a year for this to come out is your guess just as good as mine but nonetheless it is out and unfortunately will probably go unnoticed because the people that usually talk about and air out these type of things are wondering why Chris and Rihanna were in Miami and if they secretly got married.

Look, all I’m saying is that it’s bigger issues going on right now rather than copy catting and reporting the same news that every other news outlet is posting.  Remember the Jena 6? So many bloggers picked up on it that the media had to take notice. I’m not trying to be all self righteous like I only talk about social ills and such but I just get tired of reading the same thing every time I go to these different sights or seeing the same thing tweeted or hearing the same thing over and over. Not even like they change it up and kick it from their perspective, nope. They just tell it straight like the other person.

Okay that’s the end of my rant. On to happier/different stuff.

After being home with my son all day every day for the past 2-3 weeks, I think I sorta understand what it’s like to be a single parent. Only difference is that when Mommy comes home, I can have a break or do some of the things that I couldn’t do with just me and him. I tip my hat to any and all single parents. I truly do. I don’t see how you do it day in and day out and still have the time/energy to do other things as well. I’m still looking out for that 25th hour that some of you guys seem to have.

I really need to start going to bed before 3 am. It’s really messing me up.
Aiight so on that note I’m out.

Peace

It’s Been A Long Time… Not Really

So I’m back from my little forced hiatus. There have been a few changes since my last post. First let’s get into why I was gone. My laptop caught a nasty virus that basically destroyed my hard drive so I had to get it replaced. The good thing about it was that it gave me a chance to upgrade the size of the hard drive and ram. The bad part is that I now have to find the gagillion website that I bookmarked and install all my programs again. Major pain!! Anyway, I’m back and will hopefully post some more stuff soon.

So there’s been a bunch of stuff going on since I last left you guys. Let’s see.. Hmm… Okay, the Chris/Rihanna thing *not gonna talk to much about it*, AIG just blew threw/wasted $60 Billion in one quarter and need another bailout, I now work from home, CW is pulling the plug on ‘The Game’. There’s a lot more I’m sure but those are the things I’ll discuss this go ’round.

Aiight so The Chris/Rihanna this is just dead wrong. That’s all I’m saying on that one.

I can’t believe AIG is $60 billion in debt once again! Kinda glad I don’t work there anymore because it doesn’t look like things are going to get any better anytime soon.

I’m working from home now. I make a little less than I did before but it equals out once you add in savings on gas and such. It’s cool but I just have to work on my attention skills. *It’s about the size of a nat’s brain.* I can’t complain though, in this economy I’m happy to have a job. It’s just hard for me to focus with Boogie aka Squirt aka Prince aka King *yes he changes his name daily* running around crazy. Of course, like anything I’ll make it work.

I heard from my sister Sane that they are going to or have already pulled the plug on one of my favorite shows ‘The Game’. Now you know I’m pissed off about this right! This was the last of the black sitcoms. I doubt if it’ll even get a final show. They’ll just do it the same way they did ‘Girlfriends’ and ‘Moesha’. They should at least finish out this season, I mean how am I gonna find out if Derwin & Med school broke up for good and what about the baby? Who’s the black girl that Jason moved on with? So many questions will have to go unanswered. This sucks major! Not as bad as say the economy but that was an escape I had from reality for about 30 minutes a week. I should have seen it’s demise when they started playing it on BET.

Since I’ve been home I have been watching a large amount of daytime television and I must say… Daytime TV sucks major! I mean nothing really interesting comes on. I used to think that I was missing so much when I was away at school or work during the day but nope! not missing much. I do like watching Regis & Kelly, Maury * the morning show because that’s the DNA results episodes* and The View, but other than that there’s not to much else. Dr. Phil but that comes on in the afternoon so it doesn’t really count. I do watch a lot of Noggin* It’s like preschool on TV*  with the yungin.

I think that’s about it for me. What’s been going on in your world?

*Update- I just checked my Dvr and there will be a new (possibly the last) episode of ‘ The Game’ coming on March 13th At 8:30 pm est 7:30 pm cst so set your Tivo’s, Dvr’s, watches, phones, time clocks or whatever you need to do to remind yourself!*
